Patch notes

Changelog

Every beta release, newest first. The same notes are inside the game under Patch Notes.

  1. v0.6.1-betaLatest

    Missing Pieces Hotfix

Fixes missing icons and chess pieces in the downloaded game, plus a sharper main menu.

    • Fixed: the downloaded 0.6.0 build was missing its chess pieces and menu icons (tiles showed empty and pieces fell back to plain circles). The raw art files are now shipped with the game.
    • Sharper main menu backdrop: the castle art was upscaled 4x for large and high-resolution screens.
  2. v0.6.0-beta

    Daily Quests

Three fresh daily quests every day, a sharper profile card, and patch notes you can read without leaving the game.

    • Daily quests: three new quests every day (easy, medium, hard) drawn from a pool of 24, worth 100, 150 and 250 XP. Claim them from the Daily Quest tile on the main menu.
    • Quests track real play: matches, wins, captures, cards played by suit, reactions, Legendary plays, online wins, puzzle solves, wins against Expert and Grandmaster bots, and surviving checkmate.
    • Profile card rebuilt: level, wins and win rate at a glance, rank badge, XP bar and record.
    • Patch Notes and News now open inside the game, listing every version.
    • Beta feedback goes to the new form at crownfall.company/feedback.
    • The relay now uses crownfallcompany.duckdns.org, so online play keeps working if the home IP changes.
  3. v0.5.0-beta

    The Crown Relay

Online play now works from any home network. Create a room, send the code, play. No router setup.

    • New CrownFall relay server: both players connect out to it, so nobody forwards ports or touches their router.
    • Room codes are shorter: ABC-DEF-GHJKL. Each room has a secret, so only people with the code can join.
    • If the relay is unreachable, the game falls back to the old direct connection automatically.
    • Security: only the computer that created a room can host it, only players who looked up the code can join, rooms expire, and room creation is rate limited.
    • Fixed: a joining player's board spammed errors until the host's first update arrived.
  4. v0.4.1-beta

    Mac Hotfix

The Mac build opens on Apple Silicon Macs again.

    • The Mac app is now code-signed (ad hoc). Unsigned builds were refused by Apple Silicon Macs, which showed them as damaged.
    • The Mac download is a single zip instead of a zip inside a zip.
    • Fixed: exported builds left out the new chess piece and icon files.
    • Updated install steps for macOS 15 (System Settings, then Open Anyway).
  5. v0.4.0-beta

    The Royal Refit

A full visual overhaul: new pieces, a marble board, and every screen rebuilt.

    • New ivory and ebony chess pieces with gold rims, on a marble board.
    • Every menu rebuilt on one design: castle backdrop, framed panels, ornate buttons, icon tiles and larger text.
    • Cards always show their true cost and rules. The printed art had out-of-date numbers.
    • New Rules Reference with tabs and diagrams: turn flow, Command and Guard, card anatomy, a threat-and-counter table, suits and fair-play rules.
    • Tutorial rewritten: 12 short steps, with Do This steps that wait for you to act.
    • Match Menu redesigned. Concede now asks twice.
    • The game board fits 1080p: full hand on screen, file letters visible, rival Guard and your plays left shown.
  6. v0.3.0-beta

    The Rules Rework

Every card is now playable. Two cards a turn, a real resource curve, and no more instant-win exploits.

    • Command grows by 1 each turn, from 2 up to 6. Guard is its own pool for reactions: +1 per turn, plus any Command you don't spend, up to 4.
    • Play up to two cards per turn, then make your chess move.
    • Burn: once per turn, discard a card for +1 Command.
    • Every card now fits its cost cap. Before this, 11 cards could never be played.
    • Removed hidden rules: the endgame lockout, position gates and the material tax.
    • Comeback: fall 4 or more material behind and you draw an extra card each turn.
    • The deck now has rarity weights: 3 copies of each Common down to 1 of each Legendary. The discard pile reshuffles when the deck runs out.
    • Step and multi-move cards stop on a capture or a check, and no card can capture a King.
    • Royal Escape, Pocket Shield, Shield King and Reverse Time can now answer a check, not only checkmate.
    • Reworked cards: Sharp Threat, Loose Spark, Burden 2 and 4, Board Spin, Hold Line, Time Receipt, Small Barrier, Royal Escape, Crownfall.
    • The bot plays more cards, plays two cards in a turn, and uses defensive reactions.
